About Rob Chapman IV

Rob was born in Sarasota, Florida on December 6, 1978. From the beginning he was exposed to the outdoors, sports, fishing, and art. While growing up Chapman primarily fished the inshore and offshore waters surrounding Bradenton, Florida, and often times would incorporate these catches into his early artwork. Early trips with his dad and brother, yielded catches including trout, redfish, snook, flounder, cobia, and many more species. Every chance Rob had he was on the water and this continued thru High School!

Following a decorated High School athletic career of baseball and basketball including 6 MVP awards in Baseball (4) and Basketball (2), 1st Team All-State Selection - 1996, 1997, Manatee County Baseball Player of the Year - 1996, and School career records for Wins (31), Strikeouts (330), ERA (1.89), and RBI's (104) Chapman was torn between college choices. He opted for an oppurtunity to follow his love of pitching with Major League aspirations, and put his artistic career on temporary hiatus.

As a 6'6" lefthanded pitcher the future appeared bright, but for 4 years Rob battled continuous injuries while on Scholarship at Lake City Community College and Jacksonville University. While at Lake City he was a member of the #1 ranked team in the Nation (1999), but unfortunately he had to undergoe 3 major surgeries in the span of 18 months. Elbow reconstructive surgery (Tommy John Surgery) was the most damaging of all of the surgeries, and Rob's left elbow and arm were never the same. This was a blessing in disguise as Rob was able to focus more of his time on Art and Academics. He won several 1st prizes in local art festivals, 1st place in the Florida Magazine Competition - Illustration, and the Top Illustrator Award at Jacksonville University.

While continuing his education at JU, an interest in graphic design and web design created a unique avenue to further develop a knowledge for the evolution of art in modern society. This was instrumental in his early career because he was able to create his own website, and expand options for all of his different art pursuals. Despite all of the growing technologies changing the face of both the natural world and the art world, Rob's true passion remains the pursual of mastering the techniques of the early artists and perfecting his own illustration skills and abilities.

Chapman graduated with Honors from Jacksonville University in May of 2002 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Computer Art and Design, and lived in Jacksonville, Florida for the following 2 years. With tremendous support from his family and future wife Rob immediately decided to start his own business. His travelings during this time brought him all over the United States. He visited Mississippi and Tennessee to study battlefields and history behind the Civil War, which will lead to a series of Civil War illustrations. Following this trip Rob visited Charlotte, North Carolina to meet with NASCAR teams and drivers, and will continue to explore athletic illustrations revolving around these teams and drivers.

Athletics, while unable to be played, bridged a gap between Rob's past career and his current career. His athletic portraits and designs began to take root in athletic establishments at all levels, and to date he has created work for Bobby Bowen, Jon Gruden, Tony Boseli, Danny Wuerffel, Mike Anderson, Ryan Newman, Darrel Waltrip, and Stephen Davis. These are the most exciting pieces of work for Chapman, because of the amazing oppurtunities drawing for these sports legends creates. While working with Sports celebrities Chapman continued to draw and create marine art.

He traveled up and down both coasts of Florida designing and setting up for Tournaments in Jacksonville, Canaveral, Miami, Florida Keys, Bradenton, and many more cities throughout the State. This time led to months of building up his own personal library of fish photos, which will serve as reference photos for his designs for decades to come. Many of these oppurtunies were created because of the incredible exposure and network of fisherman found on the Florida Sportsman Forum. The forum has been an invaluable source for Rob to get information on different fishing locations, feedback on designs, talk with fellow fisherman, and simply network with fisherman who have given him advice and pointers for the past several years.

Rob was fortunate to win the Florida Sportsman tee-shirt design contest, in which his design featured a marlin leaping out of a laptop computer. The FS Forum also allowed Rob to form business partnerships with other Fisherman, and those partnerships continue strong today. He decided early to try completely new and fresh ideas revolving around game fish. The first uniquedesigns were the cubist and neo-cubist series, and soon after the ScubaFish concept and designs came to life. These designs were so succesful that a line of shirts soon followed, and Rob decided to actively pursue the apparel market.

After his wife (Andrea Gillen) graduated with her Masters in Speech Pathology from Valdosta State University they were married in August 2004. They bought a house which included an art studio, frame shop, office, and storage space in Lake City, Florida . He soon set up shop and business grew with the new space and resources. Rob's custom and original art designs are now owned throughout the world, and his marine art and tees can be found in retail, tackle, fishing, and tourist stores throughout the South East U.S. The next few years will prove to be an exciting time for Rob as he continues to develop new concepts and create distinctive designs.
